How to tailor your CV for multilingual applications
A strong multilingual CV is not two different career stories. It is one clear story expressed with the right evidence, tone, and vocabulary for the role in front of you.

Start with the role, not the translation
The common mistake is translating the CV first and tailoring it second. That usually creates a polished but unfocused document.
Read the job description and decide what the employer is really buying: delivery speed, frontend depth, backend ownership, customer-facing clarity, or calm coordination across teams. Then reorder your proof around that need.
- If the ad emphasizes ownership, lead with shipped work and decisions you made.
- If the ad emphasizes collaboration, show how you worked with product, design, customers, or stakeholders.
- If the ad emphasizes a stack, name the tools only where you can connect them to real work.
Keep the same facts in both languages
Credibility comes from consistency. Companies, dates, roles, education, and achievements should not change between the Swedish and English version.
What can change is phrasing. Swedish applications often reward a calmer tone. English applications can tolerate slightly more explicit ownership language, but still need evidence.
Practical rewrite
Instead of saying 'highly motivated full-stack developer', say what you have actually built: 'Built React and Node.js features for user-facing workflows, with ownership from implementation through release.'
Tailor the first third hardest
Recruiters rarely read a CV like a novel. The profile, skills snapshot, and first recent role carry most of the signal.
The fastest improvement is to make those sections answer the job directly while leaving the rest of the document stable and truthful.
- Profile: one role-aligned sentence, not a personality summary.
